Literacy through Phonics
Literacy through Phonics is a 60 hour correspondence course that introduces the trainee to modern phonics. The trainee will complete three written assignments and prepare two audio tapes. Email and phone support is available as trainees work through the course.
Trainees will learn about:
- Acquiring literacy
- Types of literacy problems
- The history of the English language
- Encoding (spelling) and decoding (reading)
- The sounds of English phonograms
- Teaching a phonogram
- Identifying student difficulties
- Individualising student programmes

Course Fee: $1,100 inc GST
When trainees have completed Literacy through Phonics they may choose to go on and complete Practical Phonics for Tutors/Teachers (course fees will be credited).
