		Alphabet Chart Students use the illustrations to add to their phonogram charts or dictionaries.
	Students read stories with words that include new phonograms.	New Zealand Fern Readers – Level 5 Mamaku – Books 1-10 These readers are used for gaining confidence (fluency) and comprehension skills. They provide excellent dictation practice.
	Students build on grammar and comprehension knowledge.	Down to Earth Grammar – Book 3 by Barbara Dykes Book 3 explains new terms and provides exercises and activities for consolidation.
	Students build on grammar and comprehension knowledge.	Practical Comprehension – Book 2 by Dulcie McCarthy This tests the students’ understanding of texts and their ability to write well-formed sentences.
	Students are introduced to the principle of word building.	Word Building by Gavin Swallow Root words, prefixes and suffixes are explained simply. Practice exercises are included.
	Students use homework sheets to consolidate learning.	Homework A list of spelling words to learn; written comprehension and questions to answer.
